Verified Host Configurations on Intel 13th Gen / 9th Gen

Verified OS

Since NPL54Capture depends on several kernel PCIe APIs, the driver may require slight adjustments if any kernel APIs are deprecated. Currently, we have verified PCIe-NPL54 on the following OS versions:

  • Ubuntu 20.04

  • Ubuntu 22.04

  • Ubuntu 24.04

Not Supported OS

  • Windows (planned future support)

  • Ubuntu 18.04

System Requirements

Please note that the PCIe-NPL54 is designed to minimize latency with minimal buffering. BIOS settings and the choice of OS storage can significantly impact PCIe stability. We strongly recommend referring to our verified configuration below when selecting a host system for PCIe-NPL54 integration.

Glitched or incomplete frames may occur if the PCIe-NPL54's DMA requests exceed the host computer's processing capacity. We have observed several factors that influence DMA performance:

  • CPU generation: Intel 12th Gen or newer is preferable to older generations such as 9th Gen.

  • Storage type: Running the OS on NVMe storage provides better performance than using a SATA SSD.

  • Memory configuration: Dual-channel DDR is preferable to single-channel.

  • Total video stream megapixels per PCIe-NPL54

  • Total video stream megapixels across multiple PCIe-NPL54s

circle-info

Please note that a total of 32 megapixels already exceeds the display capacity of Intel 9th Gen. We suspect that the 32 MP of video data is successfully streamed to memory, as the frame rate recovers when some of the GStreamer display windows are closed.
